County Assessor’s race: Brooks to make run official

Promising that “bombshells will be dropped,” at a press conference schedule for this evening in Concord, Contra Costa County Assessor candidate Bob Brooks told the Gazette yesterday he has big news regarding his opponent Gus Kramer.

Brooks and Kramer, now joined by two other candidates, will appear on the June 8 direct primary election ballot. If one wins 50 percent plus one vote, he wins outright. If the votes are more mixed, the top two vote-winners will vie in a run-off in the November general election.more...

Recently-elected Democrat State Senator is running for U.S. Congress in Sept. 1 special election.

Mark DeSaulnier, Martinez’s representative to the California State Senate (elected in the 2008 General Election), is running for U.S. Congress in a Sept. 1 special election. The 10th Congressional District vacancy was created in March, when Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D) was appointed by President Obama as the new Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs.

The 10th Congressional district encompasses parts of Contra Costa, Solano and Alameda counties, including Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Antioch, Livermore, Dixon and El Cerrito.more...
