Contra Costa Public Health will hold free ongoing H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccination walk-in clinics at four area location through December while supplies last.

Townhall meeting tonight kicks off 2010 D.A. race
The 2010 Contra Costa County District Attorney race kicks off this evening with a two-part town hall-style meeting and debate among the three announced candidates, hosted by the Criminal Section of the Contra Costa County Bar Association (CCBA).

County lays off 120
Worst hit: Sheriff’s office, D.A., Health Services.
On Tuesday, the County Board of Supervisors voted to cut the number of county personnel by at least 120 jobs, mainly within the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office and the Health Services Department.
Leaders of the various county departments addressed the Board and outlined their strategies for coping with vanished financial support, as well as ideas for alternative funding and the possibility of stimulus money rescue.more...

Civil Grand Jury seeks new members
“I thought I knew Contra Costa County, having lived in this community my whole life,” said Mike Henson, a current member of the Contra Costa County Grand Jury. “After the month-long indoctrination, I realized I didn’t know this place at all, and I learned so many things that you just don’t get to see any other way.”
At the last City Council meeting, Henson spoke of his year as a Grand Juror as he announced the upcoming deadline, April 15, for applications from interested citizens.more...

Windfall for DUI probation office
As the State legislature struggles to solve a $42 billion deficit, the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) recently awarded the Contra Costa County Probation Department a grant of $620,115 to pay for the supervision of felony DUI offenders on probation.
This money will be used to pay the salaries for two probation officers for two years, and other administration costs, according to Probation Supervisor Laurie Barnes. more...

Federal jury slaps $100,000 fine on Gus Kramer
