Mt. Diablo's is on a roll
On Sunday, I decided to catch some Sunday League play at the Martinez Bocce Federation. It is with some trepidation that I am reporting on a team that I featured at the start of the new season. Back in April, I covered the Mt. Diablo’s, newly formed team led by Capo Ron Thomas. Thomas started to come down in the mornings and joined the Martinez Morning Mafia some time prior to the 2010 season commencing. A little reluctant at first to participate, he was warmly invited to roll some balls with the guys and very soon became hooked on the game.more...

Bocce hosts Knights of Columbus tournament
The Martinez Bocce Federation experienced a wonderful “Knights of Columbus Bocce Tournament” on Saturday, July 24, in which 16 teams participated. Many entries arrived late in the week and unfortunately with all available slots taken some teams were unable to gain a place in the gathering.
It was a spectacular day with the weather cooperating to the fullest; bright and sunny with a cooling onshore breeze.
Team drawings were made, preliminaries were short and to the point and Double Elimination play got underway at 9 a.m.more...

Bocce Federation’s request for fencing turned down by Park District
MBF cites damages to courts by skaters, golfers, horses. Park District says fencing is ‘tantamount to privatizing public park.’
To fence or not to fence: that was the question the Commissioner of the Martinez Bocce Federation (MBF) put to members of the Martinez Shoreline Joint Planning Agency last week.
