IN THE WAKE OF MOMMA BEAVER

This week employees at the County Clerk-Recorder Building on Escobar posted construction paper hearts with condolence messages, on a fence adjacent to the beaver lodge, after the colony’s matriarch was euthanized on June 26. On Friday, beaver supporters held an impromptu memorial service. The female beaver was deemed terminally ill after she suffered a broken incisor tooth, preventing proper feeding. Five beavers remain at the home in Alhambra Creek, the patriarch, a bi-yearling and three new kits.more...

After surviving near execution, relocation threats, heavy construction and the birth of 15 babies, the matriarch of the Martinez beavers was euthanized over the weekend. 

Vets at U.C. Davis are currently conducting a necropsy on the late beaver to discover the underlying illness that caused the beaver to stop eating and lose a significant amount of weight over the past two weeks.more...

Beaverfest: Kids have a dam good time

The local advocacy group Worth-A-Dam collected over $2,500 in donations during the second annual Beaver Festival last Saturday. From 12:30 to 6:30 p.m., an estimated 800 visitors — from all over the Bay Area and beyond — descended on Martinez in hopes of catching a glimpse of the elusive beavers and participated in a variety of beaver-related tours, games and activities.more...
