College Park’s Travis Raciti orally commits to San Jose State
Two-way football star earned many honors; three-year starter.
New San Jose State football coach Mike MacIntyre continued to keep a feverish pace on the recruiting trail with National Signing Day just a few days away. The latest addition to the Spartans stable was big Travis Raciti from College Park High School. Raciti paid a visit to the campus and met with MacIntyre to seal the deal last Sunday.
At CP, Raciti played both tight-end and defensive tackle. He even lined-up as a linebacker in some defensive schemes. No matter where this solid young man played, he was a force to reckon-with for the opposition. more...

Nate at ND
SEASON TICKET
Nate Montana, son of ex-Notre Dame quarterback and NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana, has rejoined the Fighting Irish, according to a published report. Montana transferred to Pasadena City College last fall to try to get some game experience, according to the South Bend Tribune.
The quarterback was approached and worked out for several other four-year college teams after the season but eventually decided to return to Notre Dame. Montana made the Irish roster in 2008 as a walk-on but found practice reps tough to come by during the season and the next spring, in 2009. more...

MLB, Japanese pro league in discussion to play 'Global World Series'
Many details still to be discussed; feasibility still in question.
Reports surfaced on both sides of the Pacific Ocean that Major League Baseball (MLB) Commissioner Bud Selig has proposed that the league champions of Japan and the United States play a “Global World Series” Selig’s Japanese baseball counterpart Ryozo Kato also confirmed the story.
Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) Commissioner Kato told reporters in New York that the MLB commissioner made the suggestion during their meeting in Milwaukee recently. more...

Raider’s punter Shane Lechler thinks Sebastian Janikowski should have been selected for the American Conference Pro Bowl team. Lechler supports his case by citing indisputable statistics. Janikowski made 24-of-27 field goals this season. His only misses coming from 45, 57 and 66 yards. The latter of which would have set an NFL record. more...

Raiders Pro Bowlers
Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and punter Shane Lechler have been named to the 2010 Pro Bowl squad, the NFL announced today. Tight end Zach Miller and defensive end Richard Seymour were named Pro Bowl alternates for the January 31, 2010 game in South Florida.
The Pro Bowl selection is the fifth for Lechler, who leads the NFL in punting with a 51.1-yard average. His net punting average of 44.0 yards also leads the NFL.more...

2009 marked the 60th anniversary of one of the most important, yet unknown, piece of American diplomacy in history. After the conclusion of World War II, the United State occupied Japan for several years while they supervised a new political process and national rebuilding.

Mike Cammalleri scored the Montreal Canadiens’ 20,000th goal in franchise history during the first period of the Dec. 28 game against the Ottawa Senators. Cammalleri took Andrei Kostitsyn’s pass and put a shot from the slot past Ottawa goalie Pascal Leclaire into a wide open net for the milestone goal, which opened the scoring 4:59 in.more...

Alhambra wrestlers travel to Minden, Nevada and place 8th at Lions Invitational
Over the Christmas Holiday break, the Alhambra wrestling team travelled to Minden, Nevada to wrestle in the Douglas High Lions Invitational Tournament. The Dogs were lead by one of the team captains Alec Monaco at 147 lbs. Monaco had a season break out tournament going 5-1 and taking third. Monaco’s consolation championship victory over Jesse Williamson of Pershing (who was seeded first in the tournament) was even sweeter given that it avenged an earlier 2nd round loss to Williamson in the tournament.more...

Late touchdown dooms Dogs at Marin Catholic in 28-21 loss.
The “Tale of the Tape” was just about as even as you could get. The two heavyweights weren’t the same in physical stature, but cast big shadows on the gridiron. For the season, Richard Calhoun and Chris Adams of Marin Catholic were separated by just 54 yards rushing and two touchdowns scored. Both advantages were in Calhoun’s favor.more...

Tim Lincecum raised his record to 15-7 and his strikeouts total to 261 in the Giants’ 7-3 victory over the Diamondbacks. If it turns out to be Lincecum’s final appearance of the season, as it would appear to be, he would finish with an earned run average of 2.48. A’s pitcher Brett Anderson American League Rookie of the Month thanks to his outstanding play in September. Anderson, a 21-year-old left-hander, went 4-0 with a 2.28 ERA in four September starts. In 23 2/3 innings, he surrendered just 22 hits and three walks while striking out 26 and holding opposing batters to a .247 average.
Anderson was acquired from the D-Backs as part of the Dan Haren trade in December 2007. He became just the third Oakland rookie to win at least four games in September, joining Barry Zito (five in 2000) and Mike Warren (four in 1983). more...

College Park trips Alhambra in season opener, 37-14
Falcon’s offense gains 427 yards, with 311 coming on ground.
The past three meetings between rivals Alhambra and College Park have left the Bulldogs on the short-end. The 2007 game ended with a controversial 2-point conversion for the Falcons and left Alhambra bewildered. The past two contests, both played at CP, were not close; those two games saw the Falcons spank the Dogs 32-0 and 46-21, respectively.more...

Bulldogs look to rebound from sub-par gridiron campaign
Team blessed with significant experience; 17 lettermen return.
After an uncharacteristic 2-8 season in 2008, Alhambra football fans, coaches and players all shared a common disappointment. The team never really established an identity for themselves. Thus, the Bulldogs lacked a solid foundation which success could be built upon. The consistency they sought all season never arrived.

Underclassmen key win over Acalanes on Senior Day
Ward’s RBIs vault Alhambra to 3-2 victory.
It was Senior Day at Knowles Field on Thursday with eight graduating Bulldogs and their parents being honored before the game. However, two hours later the story of the day turned-out to be the contribution of two underclassmen which resulted in a much needed win for Alhambra.
In a tight game against Acalanes, it was junior Alex Ward’s two runs batted-in, including the game-winner which were the difference. The relief pitching of sophomore Robert Stephenson was also tested but withstood a challenge from the Dons.more...

A 9-inning high school baseball game is not that common. Although, Dublin, Alhambra’s opponent last Thursday, was playing their second in three days. TUESDAY — As the Miramonte Matadors strolled across Knowles Field to catch their waiting bus just beyond the center field gate, Elliott Waterman did his usual post-game pitching ritual: run from foul pole-to-foul pole several times. The senior know show important those repetitions are in order to alleviated the lactic acid build-up in his muscles.
