One DUI arrest, residents aware of Avoid Campaign
The Martinez Police Department reported making just one motorist arrest last Saturday for suspected driving under the influence.
A pedestrian was also arrested for public intoxication.
“During the evening, many citizens reported they were aware of the checkpoint and aware of the dangers of driving while intoxicated,” said MPD Sgt. Aaron Roth.
Three drivers received citations for driving on a suspended license, seven were cited for carrying no license and “officers gave several warnings to drivers for various violations of the vehicle code,” said Roth.
Police made contact with each of the 563 drivers and vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, positioned in the 3700 block of Alhambra from 7:30 to 11 p.m.
Funded through a California Office of Traffic Safety grant, which in turn is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the operation also received support form the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department Avoid Campaign.
