The now-officially historic Sharkey Building at 630 Court Street came close to being demolished in 2006, when the second developer to enter into an exclusive negotiating agreement with the City asserted it would cost too much to retrofit properly.
A few months later, however, the developer dropped out of the deal. According to a Council report authored by former City Manager Don Blubaugh in Nov. 2006, "B&H Development was no longer interested in pursuing an agreement for the purchase of the property and development of a restaurant at 630 Court Street. Its proposal to demolish the building and build a new structure (while preserving historical feature) was triggering costly environmental review and likely litigation before permits could be issued."
