Milestone Victory
De La Salle (DLS) boys head basketball coach Frank Allocco collected another milestone victory recently when he picked up his 400th career win with the Spartan’s program.
DLS beat Lincoln of San Francisco 69-36 on Jan. 21 to reach the plateau. Allocco is currently in his fifteenth season at the Concord school. Overall, he has been a varsity coach for 21 seasons. In all, Allocco’s teams have won 568 games. The other victories to his credit were at Northgate. The victory Allocco notched pushed this year’s DLS record to 16-2.
Hacked: It's no trip across the pond

HACKED??!! It all began with a call from a friend in Puerto Vallarta at 6:05 in the morning this past Tuesday. “Bill, are you OK? We just got this terrible email saying you are in trouble … etc.” Then, 10 minutes later another call, this one from a friend in Pascagoula, Mississippi with the same concern. Then, a short time later from Sandra Hall, a fellow Kiwanian who said she wasn’t really worried because she just knew I would figure out how to get home, but she called to let us know she read it and was still glad to hear my voice. Bless her heart!!

Warriors Post Rare Win At Detroit
The Warriors posted a 99-91 win over the Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills on January 15. It was only the third time in franchise history, including the team's time in Philadelphia, that the Warriors won a game at Detroit in which they failed to score at least 100 points. The more recent of the others was in 1993, and the first was 48 years ago to the night at Cobo Arena - an 89-79 win in which Wilt Chamberlain scored 32 points.
First-Overall Picks Square Off
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Sunday's NFC Championship was just the fourth time first-overall picks have met in a postseason game, and the two have had differing career paths. Alex Smith struggled until 2011, while Eli Manning already has a Super Bowl victory for the New York Giants.
Another Montana Hits The Road
Nick Montana, the son of Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana, has been granted his release from Washington so he may transfer to another program, Huskies coach Steve Sarkisian said.
Montana is considering a pair of two-year colleges -- Blinn College in Texas or El Camino College in California, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad. Montana, who redshirted in 2010, appeared in six games for the Huskies in 2011, starting one, against Oregon State. He completed 24 of 42 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns and was intercepted twice.
Montana landed at Washington with much fanfare as one of the jewels in Sarkisian's second recruiting class. But Montana was beaten out for the starting role by Keith Price last spring and Price threw for a school record 33 touchdowns this season.
When he was being recruited, Montana had also considered Notre Dame, his father's alma mater, as well as LSU, Ohio State, Stanford, Alabama and Georgia.
Sharks Feel Right At Home In A Home Shootout
Torrey Mitchell's goal in the middle of the third period tied the game and Michal Handzus and Brent Burns found the net in the shootout as the Sharks defeated the Flames. It was the fourth shootout in San Jose this season, and the Sharks have won them all. That's more unusual than you might think: Visiting teams have won 57 percent of NHL shootouts this season.

Martinez deserves better
TROUBLED is the best way I can express my feelings over two proposed real estate developments in our community. One is the major change in plans for the Berrellesa Palms development for seniors, which has now been changed by the developer due to financing issues.
The second is the proposed town house development on Muir Station Road, which had its plans reviewed last week by the Design Review Committee of the City – it's called Laurel Knoll.
